A Maryland man turned a $5 Money Money Money ticket into $50,000, though not before he lost on three previous tickets during a stop at Sheetz in St. Mary's County.

The lucky winner said that he purchased four tickets at Sheetz in the 22700 block of Three Notch Road in California, but fate had a little fun with him before his unexpected windfall, which topped his previous top prize of $500.

“I scratched one and scanned it, not a winner; two, not a winner; three, not a winner. The fourth one said ‘Go to the Lottery,’” he said, noting that he was surprised to see that the number 10 was in a square with the amount $50,000, and 10 was one of the winning numbers.

Stunned, and not entirely sure he had a top-prize winner, the suspicious player asked an employee to confirm thee big win, which the clerk happily did.

"That was amazing," he said.

With his five-figure prize, the St. Mary's County resident said that he plans to make some home upgrades and repairs in the residence he shares with his father.

"I love it," he added. "You gotta play to win."
